The taste of Little Britian---Luton

They call the country Great Britain and they call the city Greater London. Lucky me. My job provides me with several chances to be there to have a real touch of the true colour of this international capital. It is really different. You know what, in some places, you can hear many kinds of languages but English. That is a way to show the openness of London. And to my knowledge, another way to make the city international is the fact that London is with 5 international airports. And Luton airport is one of them.

Please don’t think Luton is part of London. In fact, this city is more than forty miles northwest of central London. But people say Luton Airport is one of London’s. Almost all the adults in Britain have driving licences; hence they are equipped with more mobility. To travel forty miles by car seems to be a piece of cake for them. Maybe that is why Luton Airport is considered to be a London airport.

To be honest with you, Luton is nothing special. After two hours walk all round the city, the only word I’d like to say is ‘uuuuuuuugly’. The buildings are quite old and no shining windows either. Well, I do confess the day I was there was very cloudy. But I also visited some other cities in rainy days, I think those cities are beautiful. If I think deeper and look closer, in Luton, there are not many grass lands and there is no rivers running through the city. Basically, a running river can vitalize a city. Luton just likes an old lady who is staggering in an abandoned industrial waste. I am sure my views are very limited. After all one day is obviously too short to understand a city. But two-hour is long enough to give someone the so-called ‘first impression’. Well, there is something interesting near railway station. There is a very old building, with a machine in front of it, as a kind of monument. This machine is a hat-making machine and the old building used to be a very famous hat factory, which is acclaimed to be the first one in the UK.

I didn’t have much time to linger here, because there was only 3 fours for me catch my next train, which would take me to my destination in Wales. Hopefully, I will have another chance to be here and let me find a better Luton by then. Well, there is nothing to complain really, after all, I have more experiences about UK and tried another taste of little Britain.
